as the title may suggest, I have a GTX 560, and every driver I've tried is completely HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE with FFXI. drop to 20 fps when weapon skills go off, 10-15 fps with 3+ avatars out. anyways, i'm hoping someone may have the same gpu as me and also happen to have found a good driver for it that works w/ ffxi.

thanks

The entire Nvidia 400/500 series are based around the same core design and have the same issues around Confluxes/Maws/Avatars, they simply don't like there lighting. It's believed to be something that's lost in translation though so many directX versions.

Have you tried the latest 310.33 BETA drivers? Those are by far the best for me, I can actually dual box 2 characters at a Conflux without my frame rate dropping. Granted it's still not perfect and multiple avatars will drop the frame rate some but it's an improvement over any of the other drivers I've used.

I'll include links to the drivers below, if you try them out be sure to chose Advanced and check the box for Clean install during installation.

310.33 drivers:

I have not tried the beta drivers yet, just the latest whql ones. I never have issues w/ confluxes/maws, just avatars, songs, certain weapon skills, and certain spells. I 4box a lot and things are good unless the avatars/specific weapon skills go off,or songs/spells(this goes for single ffxi open as well). I'm intrigued because Helel's has the same card as me, and found custom drivers that work for him ( http://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/26418/nvidia-gtx-560/#1594426 ), but they're still HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE for me (although slightly better than what nvidia puts out). one of my friends have a a 400 series card, and everything works fine. I've also read that the 570/580 (with the supported driver 266.85 i believe, works perfectly as well)

Play FFXI? Drop Nvidia. I've stubbornly used their cards all the way back from Geforce 5500. Upgraded to 250GTS and now relative to you, I currently use a GTX 570 with 301.42 driver.

Similar problems, runs fine at 30 with huge crowds (even while 5-boxing) until animation and actions become involved.

I plan on trying a Radeon 6800. Whenever I've bought a new card (at local small shops) I ask if they will let me run a benchmark and they always do.

Tweakforce.com drivers don't work for you? I have exactly the same card so maybe it's something to do with graphic settings. Maybe sure your background resolution is a multiple of your overlay resolution. For example, my overlay is 1600x900, and my background is 3200x1800. If this doesn't work, set your background to the same resolution as your overlay.

That website doesn't do a very good job at explaining what their drivers do or what changes from official drivers are included.

Open up your nvidia control panel, in manage 3D settings, go down to power management mode, select prefer maximum performance for global settings.

I had the same issue with my GTX 560 and that resolved it for me, you may also wanna go to EVGA's website(if that's your cards manufacturer) and get EVGA Precision X and play around with the fan curve and find something that is good for you other wise at idle your card will sit around an uncomforting 50C+. 50% is what I set mine to for temps between 40-50 and it rarely exceeds 46 when I'm multiboxing XI.

Hope that was helpful for you, drivers were never an issue for me.
I love you
